Cox deals for June 2026

Cox's promo calendar is the least generous of the big cable ISPs, shorter intro periods, smaller discounts, and a hard 1.25 TB data cap on every plan except StraightUp Internet. The tradeoff: Cox runs in markets (Phoenix, San Diego, Las Vegas, New Orleans) where fiber is often unavailable, so the comparison set is itself thin. Current April 2026 pricing holds the 500 Mbps Go Faster tier at $60/mo for 12 months, introduces a "no-annual-contract" option on all tiers, and runs a $150 Visa card on 1 Gig and above.

What signals a good Cox deal

  • Cox's 1.25 TB data cap is the most restrictive headline policy among big ISPs. Overage is $10 per 50 GB up to $100/mo. Unlimited data is a separate $50/mo add-on, budget for it if you stream 4K or work remotely.
  • StraightUp Internet is Cox's hidden value tier, prepaid, no cap, no contract, flat $50/mo. Worth it if you don't need more than 100 Mbps and want to skip the promo/regular-rate cycle entirely.
  • The Panoramic Wi-Fi gateway (built-in router) is $14/mo rental, this is NOT waived in the promo. You can bring your own modem to skip it, but you'll lose the Panoramic app features.
  • Cox's 12-month promo is shorter than Xfinity's 24-month offering. If you're choosing between the two in a competitive market, Xfinity's rate-lock usually wins on total-cost-of-ownership.
  • Cox's retention department is aggressive, call month 11 and they'll almost always extend your promo rate another 12 months. This is part of the pricing model; treat it as required.

Best time to buy

Black Friday through mid-December is the one window where Cox materially improves the offer, the Visa card doubles ($150 to $300 on 1 Gig+) and the promo rate sometimes extends to 18 months instead of 12. The second-best window is back-to-school (late August through Labor Day) targeting dorm and apartment movers. Avoid signing in January or February; promos are at their thinnest. Because Cox runs in markets with limited competition, there's less seasonal pressure on pricing than Xfinity faces in fiber-competitive metros.

Frequently asked questions

Does Cox's 1.25 TB data cap really matter?
Yes, if you stream 4K or work from home heavily. A typical 4K-streaming household uses 1.5–3 TB/month. Cox charges $10/50 GB over the cap up to $100/mo. The $50/mo unlimited add-on pays for itself if you routinely go over.
Is StraightUp Internet really prepaid with no contract?
Yes. You pay monthly in advance, no credit check, no ETF, no commitment. Speeds are capped at 100 Mbps and there's no promo rate discount, but there's also no jump at month 13 and no data cap.
When does Cox run its best promos?
Cox is less seasonal than Xfinity or Spectrum, but watch for Black Friday (the Visa card doubles to $300 on 1 Gig+), spring move-in season (May), and back-to-school (late August). Retention promos run year-round.
Can I bring my own modem?
Yes, Cox publishes a list of approved modems. You'll save $14/mo on Panoramic Wi-Fi rental but lose the integrated app features. Budget-conscious users should BYO; convenience users should rent.
What happens at month 13?
Your rate jumps to the regular price, typically +$30/mo. Call Cox retention the week before and mention you're considering switching, they'll usually extend the promo, drop you a tier, or add a $100 Visa card to keep you.
